The Kiloparsec-scale Kinematics of High-redshift Star-forming Galaxies
We present the results of a spectroscopic survey of the kinematic structure of star-forming galaxies at redshift z ∼ 2 − 3 using Keck/OSIRIS integral field spectroscopy. Our sample is comprised of 12 galaxies between redshifts z ∼ 2.0 and 2.5 and one galaxy at z ∼ 3.3 which are well detected in either Hα or [O iii] emission. These galaxies are generally representative of the mean stellar mass o...
متن کاملThe WiggleZ Galaxy Survey shows that dark energy is real
The WiggleZ Dark Energy Survey on the Anglo-Australian Telescope has measured redshifts for 220,000 emission line galaxies. The galaxies sample a volume of 1 cubic Gpc and a redshift range of 0.2 < z < 1. This is the first survey to measure the cosmology of the universe over such a wide range of epochs. Our analysis provides strong evidence that dark energy is real. In our first major results w...
متن کاملThe magnetic field in luminous star-forming galaxies
An ongoing search for Zeeman splitting in the 1667 MHz OH megamaser emission from luminous star-forming galaxies has yielded numerous detections. These results, in addition to being the first extragalactic measurement of the Zeeman effect in an emission line, suggest that OH megamasers are excellent extragalactic magnetometers. We review the progress of our survey and discuss future observations.
متن کاملstar-forming galaxies from the SPT survey
Wepresent [C II] observations of 20 strongly lensed dusty star-forming galaxies at 2.1 20mJy) from the South Pole Telescope (SPT) survey, with far-infrared (FIR) luminosities determined from extensive photometric data. The [C II] line is robustly detected in 17 sources, all but one ...
متن کاملSloan Digital Sky Survey Spectroscopic Lens Search. I. Discovery of Intermediate-redshift Star-forming Galaxies behind Foreground Luminous Red Galaxies
We present a catalog of 49 spectroscopic strong gravitational lens candidates selected from a Sloan Digital Sky Survey sample of 50996 luminous red galaxies. Potentially lensed star-forming galaxies are detected through the presence of background oxygen and hydrogen nebular emission lines in the spectra of these massive foreground galaxies. This multiline selection eliminates the ambiguity of s...
